Horizontal Hold

Golden hour, sliced sideways.

A fishing pier at sundown, the sky and the water pulled sideways in neon glitch streaks - cyan, magenta, and violet over a molten orange sunset. Vaporwave.

The Story

The municipal pier at Lake Worth Beach runs a quarter mile into the Atlantic, and at sundown the whole structure becomes a grandstand: anglers along the rail, pelicans on the pilings, the sun dropping straight down the length of the deck. On the best evenings the sky stacks up in bands - violet over pink over molten orange - and the wet sand at the shoreline doubles all of it. Here the bands slip sideways, sliced into streaks of cyan and magenta, the way a broadcast tears when the signal falters. The pier never moves. The sunset just refuses to sit still.

The Making

  • A straight sunset photograph of the pier, then the sky and the water are pulled sideways in thin slices - cyan, magenta, and violet streaks wherever the picture slips.
  • The pier itself is left untouched and dead level, a dark ruler across the middle of the frame, so the glitch has something solid to tear against.
  • The wet sand in the lower third works as a second screen, catching the orange of the sunset and the teal of the streaks in the same reflection.
