The Story

In summer, Saharan dust crosses the Atlantic to hang over South Florida, softening sunsets into pastel bands with hard, low-resolution edges. The lagoon takes the colors in sequence: pink, lavender, turquoise, the stepped edge describing the event itself.

The Making

Rendered at deliberately coarse pixel scale in Photoshop, with the pastel gradient rebuilt clean underneath so the stepped edge reads against a smooth sky.
Frond silhouettes drawn in Illustrator.
Upscaled for print with nearest-neighbor scaling only, so the pixel structure survives.
